Mr. Wainscott was a photographer who had a studio in Cumberland. His prized photographs are now preserved by the Appalachian Center on the South East Community College campus.

Benham was the first coal camp established by an international company in Looney Creek valley. International Harvester created Benahm just before World War I to supply coal for steel production in Wisconsin. Today, Benham is a destination for museum visitors and honeymooners.

After WWI, miners flooding into the Looney Creek valley needed a place to stay before their homes were built by the company. The hotel was a splendid structure and an anchor for the mining community for decades. This building is one of only a few orginal coal camp structures that cannot be visitedd today.
