Bad Branch Falls
is a 2,300-acre State Nature Preserve. The stream that flows through
the preserve, Bad Branch, is designated a Kentucky Wild River.
Why is the stream called Bad Branch? Because the gorge it cuts
on the mountain contains many treacherous cliffs, waterfalls and
boulders. Why else?
A hike to Bad
Branch Falls is a most plesant, although streneous, trek. Visitors
pass through large hemlock stands, rare flowers and plants, and
thick tuffs of rhododendrons. The falls greet you with a thunderous
roar and the eerie caw of ravens can be heard along these enchanted
forest trails.
